Hypertension Diet

Have you been instructed to begin a hypertension diet, but aren't sure how to get started? A hypertension diet can help to eliminate harmful foods from your daily eating plan in order to bring your high blood pressure back down to an acceptable level.

If your weight is contributing to your high blood pressure, a hypertension diet can also help you to shed unwanted pounds. So what does a hypertension diet entail?

A hypertension diet usually puts a lot of emphasis on cutting back on processed foods and eating more fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and grains. Lean cuts of meat are recommended, and fish is especially championed for its low percentage of saturated fats, and valuable Omega 3 oils. Because sodium is very instrumental in raising blood pressure, this plan usually recommends eliminating excess salt from your meal plan.

This means refraining from adding any salt to food other than what is naturally there, and instead seasoning with spices for flavour. Low Fat, or Fat Free Dairy products are also well regarded, and you are advised to stop any excess alcohol usage.

In addition to the eating plan, there are a number of lifestyle changes recommended, including beginning a moderate exercise regime, or increasing your current one as exercise not only releases stress, it also improves blood flow. If you are a smoker, it is recommended that you stop immediately. Also, if you work in a stressful environment, or have to endure loud, repetitive noises or bright lighting, you may want to consider switching jobs. For further information on how to combat high blood pressure, consult your doctor.
